Why We Help

Schindler Family 2018

Schindler Family 2018

When a child is diagnosed, a family is diagnosed…

Due to our personal experience of having a child with cancer we understand families going through childhood cancer treatment face loss of income and family displacement for weeks, months, sometimes years. There is increased financial need and stress due to child’s illness and treatment. The Anna Schindler Foundation works to advocate for these families during their crisis.

Family support

We assist families in the Inland Northwest (Eastern WA, North ID, West MT, Northeast OR) with a childhood cancer diagnosis. Each family receives meal cards while inpatient at the hospital. We endeavor to defray travel, grocery, medical, living and even burial expenses that is incurred because of a sick child. Our goal is to lighten the load for every childhood cancer family.

anna’s Homes

It started as a dream of the Anna Schindler Foundation to provide temporary housing, Anna’s Homes, for pediatric oncology families who are from outlying areas but must stay in Spokane for treatment. With the help of the community, Anna’s Homes have become a reality and provide out-of-town childhood cancer families with a “home away from home” during their treatment at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

awareness

In the United States, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer daily. Cancer remains to be the number one cause for death by disease in America. In 2021, 58 families heard the words “your child has cancer” in the Inland Northwest. As a community, it is our duty to be aware of this epidemic and make a difference.

Legacy Gift Planning

Retirement is the reward for many years of hard work. Some of us move into this stage of life fortunate enough to have more than we need and ponder ways to share that with others. A Qualified Charitable Distribution allows that, while reducing your taxable income at the same time.

Anna Schindler

Anna Schindler was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) on January 27, 2010. She underwent chemotherapy, and on May 5 skilled surgeons removed 70% of her liver that contained a large tumor. Pathology reports came back that Anna had hepatoblastoma and yolk sac cancer. 1 in 1 million children suffer from hepatoblastoma – even rarer is a child with both.
